CENTRAL COAST SECTION ANNOUNCES 2025-26 WINTER SCHOLASTIC CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS

The Central Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025-26 Winter Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards listed below. These awards, instituted by the CCS Board of Managers in 1985, recognize the top five Varsity teams, from each Central Coast Section sport, with the highest collective grade-point-average of all teams competing in that sport during that season of competition. The student athletes involved have achieved distinction in the classroom, and at the same time, have committed themselves to participating in interscholastic athletics. Their academic performance is yet another indication that such athletic participation enhances classroom activities. (from CIF-CCS Announcement). Congratulations to LAHS Cheer and MVHS Wrestling for their achievement!

Supporting Student Mental Health — With No Cost to Families

With your help, MVLA has an opportunity to bring in additional funding school-based mental health and preventative services!

WHAT'S NEW?

California's statewide Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), authorized through Assembly Bill 133 in 2021, was designed to strengthen student mental health services across the state — and one way it does that is by allowing school districts to be reimbursed by health plans and insurance companies for services provided on campus.

What does this mean for families?

If you provide consent, MVLA will submit claims to health plans and insurance companies for the services provided on campus with no costs to you or your family — no co-pays and no deductibles. You may see an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company, but receiving services at school does not change or reduce your child’s health coverage in any way.

Most importantly, your child will continue to receive the mental health and preventative support they need at school, whether or not you provide consent to bill.

As always, MVLA protects student and family information in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA privacy laws.

For more information regarding insurance billing for school-based services please see this brochure.

How can you help?

To give your consent for MVLA to submit claims to health plans and insurance companies with no costs to you, please complete this online form

You may also return consent forms via email or in printed form to william.blair@mvla.net or any MVLA staff member working with your student. If you have any questions, please contact william.blair@mvla.net.

Singing Valentines visit Superintendent Volta

One of the most beLOVED traditions at MVHS (and now at LAHS too!) is the Valentine's holiday singing telegrams heard all across campuses during the week preceding Valentine's Day. Students in the choral programs for both schools raise funds for their programs by selling telegrams that are then delivered to students and staff throughout the week. Who doesn't love LOVE?
