MVLA Technology Standards

Overview

The technology standards highlighted below are updated regularly.  The MVLA IT department seeks to provide our students and staff with the most robust and up-to-date equipment, software, and other technology tools.  The standards highlighted below were updated in October 2024.
Network Infrastructure

Network Infrastructure

The MVLA network:
  • Core Switch:  Cisco Catalyst 9500 (with redundancy)
  • MDF Switching:  Cisco Catalyst 9500 (with redundancy)
  • IDF Switching:  Cisco Meraki MS390
  • Wireless Access Points:  Cisco Meraki MR55/MR56 (Indoor); Cisco Meraki MR84/86 (Outdoor)
 
Cabling
  • Single-mode fiber throughout the entire district
  • Cat 6A for all wireless access points
  • Cat 6+ for all wired connections
 
Servers
  • Nutanix 
 IDF
 
Classroom Technology

Classroom Technology

MVLA classrooms are equipped with the following equipment:
 
  • Teacher Computer:  Either an Apple MacBook or Dell Notebook computer (teachers are all issued devices of their choice; 16 GB RAM minimum; 256 GB SSD minimum)
  • Docking station:  HP EliteDisplay Docking Monitor or current model
  • Classroom Printer: (model varies; see below)
  • Document Camera: (iPevo V4K PRO Ultra HD USB)
  • Projection:  Epson Short-throw (1485fi laser) or Epson U530 Ceiling mounted laser projector
  • Wireless Projection:  Vivi
  • Audio:  Lightspeed TopCat

Needs in computer labs vary, dependent upon the program(s) being taught.

  • i7 Processor
  • 16GB ram
  • 512GB SSD
  • HDMI, Display Port, up to four USB ports

MacOS MINIMAL Standards
  • 24" size for iMac model
  • Apple M2 Processor
  • 24GB ram
  • 512GB SSD
  • Up to four USB-C ports
  • Bluetooth and Wireless
Office - Admin - Support Staff

Office - Admin - Support Staff

Windows (Dell Micro) Desktops with minimum standards of:
  • i7 Processor
  • 16GB Ram
  • 256GB SSD
  • HDMI, Display Ports, and at least four USB 3.1 Ports)
  • Blutetooth and wireless
  • Monitor: Varies; 24" minimum
Macbook & Windows Notebooks

Minimum standards for MacBook (Pro) and Windows Notebooks(Dell Latitude 54xx)
  • Processor (Windows i7 / M3 for MacBooks)
  • 16GB Ram (24 GB for Mac)
  • 256GB SSD
  • Bluetooth, wireless
  • 13.6" Screen (Mac) | 14" Screen (Windows)

  • 256GB memory
  • Display size dependent upon program/individual need

  • MVLA does not typically order Android tablets; standards will be established if/when needed
